A Niagara Honeymoon

Sure we were going to getaway to the sunshine for our honeymoon. But it just doesn’t work right now. We just can’t get away. Tom has the new job and I’ve got so much going on. Not mention we have to move! We are planning a trip to Mexico later this year. That’s why we went for a few days of real romance – a real honeymoon close to home!

We booked a suite at the Hilton. It was wonderful. Perfect for just the two of us. Lots of room, beautiful Tuscan décor. I felt really special. We checked in before the reception but to be honest we were in such a rush that I barely looked at the view.  Oh my gosh! When we got back to the room after the reception, and I looked out over the entire region, well, it took my breath away. I knew that the Falls at night are gorgeous but what I never realized how the night sky is lit up from Toronto to Buffalo. What a panorama!

Of course we lolled in bed the next morning. Luxury is addictive and there’s something about a long relaxing bubble bath with that view as a backdrop that makes you feel sexy and alive. We had a late breakfast at the Grande Caffe (great pastries and more breakfast choices than I could imagine) and then off we went to play tourist.

Of course, we held hands as we strolled by the Falls, visited some shops at the Galleria and grabbed a late lunch at Romano’s Macaroni Grill. I love good Italian that’s fresh and full of zest! We had plans for an exciting evening so we decided to go back to the suite for a quick “nap”.

That night we went to Brasa. We talked and talked and really enjoyed the food and flare. The Gauchos carve right at your table and they keep coming back. We tried everything and it was delicious. It was getting late, but we were still up for a little adventure so we decided to drop by the casino.

Well, we both slept in the next day. Sunlight streaming through floor to ceiling windows, reading bits of the newspaper to each other. When we finally decided to go out, it was afternoon. No commitments, no pressure, just Tom and me. We didn’t do anything special. We just walked and talked and people-watched.
That evening we had a lovely fallsview dinner at
The Watermark and then lit the fire in our suite.
You know a honeymoon close to home was just the best. Just the perfect way to start our life together. •
